This here is the guitar I did for Moniker Guitars Hand Played show. The event is tonight (Dec 7th) at Up Collective in Austin. 12 Austin artists put their mark on one of these beauties. Come check em out, (and even shred some tasty licks on them, if you’ve got the chops!) if you are in the Austin area tonight. Drinks by Deep Eddy Vodka and Independence brewery. There will be a silent auction taking place at the opening and online HERE. Proceeds go to The Austin Music Foundation
I did something a little different with this project. I got a sample of wood with the glossy finish from Moniker and experimented with it to see how different mediums would act. I was recently in Alaska and saw a lot of native scrimshaw art and I really wanted to do something along those lines. I wanted to etch into the clear coat and rub ink into the marks, but I couldn’t get the desired effect. Since I had my little scratch tool out I started playing with painting flat black acrylic on, and then scratching details out to reveal the white below. So I ended up doing a sort of scratchboard technique.
